    Pricing Information for GPAQ Touchscreen
A practice may purchase GPAQ Touchscreen software. On purchasing GPAQ Touchscreen the practice obtains the software and a licence for use until the following April. GPAQ Touchscreen purchased now will be licenced for use until April 2011. At the end of each licence period (1st April) GPAQ Touchscreen will no longer be able to collect new data.

If GPAQ Touchscreen is purchased by a Practice the licence is for use by only that practice.

The total cost will be based on the number of doctors in the practice for whom data is being collected. The total cost in UK Sterling including delivery costs and e-mail support via our website for a practice is £35.00 per doctor for 2010/11.

We hope that the above description of our prices is clear and simple. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Touchscreen Hardware

    Some information about Touchscreen Technology

Desktop PCs and Laptops are available with touch-screens incorporated into them. These are known respectively as Integrated Panel PCs and Tablet PCs. Other names for both exist, for example Integrated Panel PCs are often called Kiosks. Touch-screeens are also available as independent units, just like monitors. The features of these three options and information about their suppliers are described below.

Sometimes a selection of screens is available. Different screens make use of different technologies to detect touch (resistive, capacitive, sound acoustic wave and light beam disturbance). The only two worth considering are the resistive and capacitive as the accuracy of the other technologies is poor. It is recommended that you choose a resistive screen as these can be used with gloved hands or separate pointing devices, while capacitive need an exposed finger. Capacitive screens are very sensitive to contaminants and pollutants, which can dirty the screen preventing detection of touch.

    Hardware Options, Contacts and Discounts

    1. Integrated Panel PC
Integrated Panel PCs are "all in one" units, integrating a desktop PC and touch-screen. A picture of an Integrated Panel PC in use with GPAQ-Touchscreen is shown below. The unit is the most physically robust way to use GPAQ Touchscreen whilst offering portability. Integrated Panel PCs are increasingly being used for patient information and education and are likely to have further uses in addition to GPAQ Touchscreen.

DTS Digital Ltd is a Chesterfield based company which is now supplying the service previously provided by CADAR Measurement Solutions. DTS-Digital offer good overall value for money as their Integrated Panel PC's are designed to a high specification and are capable of operating other PC software packages. For further information please visit DTS-Digital's web site at: www.dts-digital.co.uk.

    2. Tablet PC
A tablet PC is a laptop computer with a touch-screen operated with a pen-like stylus. The screen can be rotated and folded flat to cover the computer keyboard (see picture below). The computer may have a 10.4" or larger screen. A 10.4" screen Tablet PC was used in pilot studies of GPAQ Touchscreen. It proved convenient, as patients were able to hold it on their laps, like a thick A4 size magazine, and complete the questionnaire while seated in a small part of the reception area in the surgery.

Tablet PCs obviously offer portability and may be used for other purposes in addition to GPAQ Touchscreen. Specifically designed security cables can be used to secure the Tablet PC to a fixed point thus offering security from theft.

The processors used in Tablet PCs are sometimes a little slower than those used in Integrated Panel PCs and desktop PCs but they are more than capable of operating GPAQ Touchscreen. The speed of the computer will only affect the speed at which the various animations are played. There are a number of different companies producing tablet PCs and the competition means that prices are falling. Competitively priced Acer tablet PCs can be found at www.shopacer.co.uk.

Again we suggest to PCTs and LHBs purchasing GPAQ Touchscreen that they consider buying Tablet PCs to share among the practices within their area. The PCT/LHB would arrange suitable loan periods for practices.

    Points to Consider
    • Net hardware cost: 100% capital depreciation tax relief has been available on computer hardware. This reduces the gross cost of the equipment by the top rate of income tax paid by the individual. (£500 net of 40% tax relief = £300).
    • Tablet PCs, Integrated Panel PCs and touch-screen units can all be used for other purposes in addition to operating GPAQ Touchscreen.
    • We believe that the savings made by practices using GPAQ Touchscreen will offset the hardware cost encountered in the first year of using GPAQ Touchscreen.

    Analysis of Paper Questionnaires

Analysis of data from a paper based survey may be carried out using GPAQ Touchscreen. The data is entered using GPAQ Touchscreen with a standard computer and mouse. This provides a simple and economical means of carrying out repeated patient experience surveys and analysis. The GPAQ Questionnaire is the copyright of the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre, University of Manchester and Safran/NEMCH from whom a paper version may be obtained. Their website address is www.gpaq.info.
