Post consultation patient experience data collection

The GPAQ Touch-screen questionniare will continue to be available for doctors to collect post-consultation patient experience data. This will enable continuity with data collected in previous years for QOF Points. The data will provide information for appraisal and re-validation.

It is expected that results of at least two patient surveys of GP consultations and care during the revalidation cycle, with evidence of reflection, appropriate change and discussion in appraisal [normally one patient survey in year one or two and one patient survey in year four or five] will be required for revalidation. We recommend that Practices collect data from more than the previous Patient Experience QOF requirement of fifty patients per doctor in order to provide more statistically significant surveys in preparation for revalidation assessments.

GPAQ Touchscreen collects data using the GPAQ post-consultation Patient Experience questionnaire which was designated in the 2004 GMS-2 contract.

Patient Participation DES - New for 2011.

"The Patient Participation DES aims to promote the proactive engagement of patients through the use of effective Patient Reference Groups (PRGs) and to seek views from practice patients through the use of a local patient survey. The key requirements of the patient participation arrangements agreed by negotiators are that GP practices:
    1. develop a structure that gains the views of patients and enables the practice to obtain feedback from the practice population, e.g. PRG;

    2. agree areas of priority with their PRG;

    3. collate patient views through the use of a patient survey;

    4. provide the PRG with an opportunity to discuss survey findings and reach agreement with the PRG on changes to services;

    5. agree action plan with PRG and seek PRG agreement to implementing changes;

    6. publicise the actions taken and subsequent achievement.

Around £60m of released investment will be available to practices, provided that they successfully meet these requirements (equivalent in total to £1.10 per registered patient per year)."

The GPAQ Touchscreen Patient Experience Questionnaire is a ready-made survey which provides information which may be used for discussion with PRGs. This assists in fulfilling the requirements for Practices to receive payment for the DES (£1.10 per patient).
